I am Charlaine Joubert – also known as Juffrou by die Huis. I am a former teacher, and over the past 40 years, I have taught at nursery schools, primary schools, high schools, a learning center, a school for special needs, an ABET center, and a former departmental music center. I even opened a homeschool during Covid and offered extra classes. With many years of teaching experience, thousands of children have passed through my hands.
Although I have also worked in various other industries, my love for teaching, for languages, and for children never faded. I have always been very fond of Afrikaans – Afrikaans authors and books, Afrikaans movies and TV programs, and Afrikaans music. In addition, a mom once jokingly told me that I should prepare myself to accompany her child to university so that he could pass, and a grade 5 child told me one afternoon after an Afrikaans extra class: “Teacher, I wish you could go home with me and teach me every day.” These antics made me laugh, but naturally, taking into account my love for Afrikaans and for children, as well as the great need for Afrikaans extra classes, my thoughts began to take shape, and so Juffrou by die Huis – Afrikaans Language Studies became a reality.

We are 2 children in the family. Do we have to purchase a program for each child?
No, a family buys one program. The program, with the original purchase comes with a set of worksheets for one grade. A grade–specific set of worksheets can be purchased for a second (or third or fourth) child.
For which grades is JBDH suitable?
JBDH is designed and written for Grade 4 to Grade 9 learners. There are worksheets for every grade, available per lesson available. JBDH can be used for Grade 10 to 12 as a reference or revision tool with great success – especially if the child is struggling a bit with Afrikaans Language Studies
