Hello and nice to meet you. I am Charlaine Joubert, also known as Juffrou by die Huis. I am a former teacher and over the past 40 years, I have taught at nursery schools, primary schools, high schools, a learning center, a school for special needs, an ABET center, and a former departmental music center. I even opened a homeschool and offered extra classes during Covid. With many years of teaching experience, thousands of children have passed through my hands. Although I have also worked in several other industries, my love for teaching, for languages, and for children has never faded. I have always loved Afrikaans – Afrikaans authors and books, Afrikaans movies and TV programs, and Afrikaans music. Added to that, a mom once jokingly told me that I should prepare myself to accompany her child to university so that he could pass, and a grade 5 child told me one afternoon after an extra Afrikaans class: “Teacher, I wish you could go home with me and teach me every day”. The silliness made me laugh, but naturally, considering my love for Afrikaans and for children and the great need for extra Afrikaans classes, my thoughts began to organize themselves and so Juffrou by die Huis – Afrikaans Language Teaching became a reality.
